Learn my favorite ways to pass the time and stay comfortable on international flights.
While traveling to a new and amazing destination is exciting, you might be dreading the long flight. International flights can be boring and inconvenient as you start your travel journey. Thankfully, we listed out 11 tips to make your flight better and hopefully more entertaining.
- DOWNLOAD PODCASTS
Take a break from the screen and listen to a podcast instead. Some of my favorites are The Set, Against the Rules with Micheal Lewis and The Ed Mylett Show
- WATCH TRAVEL SHOWS THAT SERVE AS INSPIRATION
I love downloading shows that get me more excited for my trip. If you are going to Italy soon, I highly recommend Stanley Tucci Searching For Italy or Bobby and Giada in Italy
- USE THIS EXTRA TIME TO DO THE SKINCARE YOU’VE BEEN PUTTING OFF
Flights recycle their air which leaves your skin feeling dry. This is my favorite face mask for flights because it is lightweight and transparent. Even better, try this sleep mask perfect for overnight flights. Trust me your skin will thank you.
This is a must-have travel essential especially on longer flights. Block out all the extra noise and plug into a good show or podcast.
I highly recommend getting a clear water bottle that shows the ounces. This will help you keep track of your water intake on the flight. Bonus: staying hydrated on the plane will help you combat jet lag.
- PUZZLE/TRIVIA CARDS
Sometimes you get sick of watching television or movies so packing trivia cards or puzzle cards is a must. This is one of my favorite ways to pass time and keep my brain occupied during those long stretches.
- PACKABLE SLIPPERS AND COMFORTABLE CLOTHING
Who wants to wear their tennis shoes for 6+ hours? Stay comfortable and cozy with packable slippers. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing for these long flights also.
- UTILIZE YOUR POINTS/MILES TO UPGRADE YOUR SEAT
In my opinion, this is one of the best ways to use your points that you’ve been saving. Depending on the airline, premium economy can provide you extreme value especially during a longer flight. Doesn’t priority boarding, extra seat room and premium meals sound great?
On these longer flights, chances are you are going to be using your electronic devices a lot. Pack a portable charger to ensure that you don’t run out of battery.
- FIND A TIME TO GET MOVEMENT IN
Since you’ll be sitting for a long period of time, try to move your body beforehand. If time permits, try and get a workout in before the flight. If not, try to walk the terminals while you wait to board your plane.
- SLEEP IS KEY
Sleeping on an international flight is important so you can be refreshed when you arrive at your destination. I highly recommend these neck pillows, neck wraps, compression socks and eye masks to ensure you sleep soundly.
